J. A. Hancock, who has been conducting a boarding house and wagon yard in Lampasas for about a year, died Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock. He was 76 years of age, was born near Key West, Florida, and came to Texas when he was about 21 years of age. He lived in Freestone county forty-one years, and thence moved to Bexar county, coming here about a year ago. He died from the effects of a cancer on his face, which finally sapped his life away. He was a Confederate soldier under Col. Taylor, and a member of the Baptist church at this place. The funeral occurred this morning and was conducted by Rev. D. P. Airhart.
