Obituary:
James H. M'Ghee Dies At Mason City Monday.
The following from Tuesday's Telegraph-Herald tells of the death of a former well-known Postville resident:
Mason City, Dec. 30.--Jas. H. McGhee died last night after a week's illness of smallpox. He was taken to the detention hospital on Christmas day although it is believed he had been ill for three or four days previous. The strain of carrying on the duties of his office in the period before the disease was recognized is believed by physicians to have been responsible for his death. Smallpox here has been of a light variety, but doctors this morning were experiencing a tremendous rush for vaccination.
Mr. McGhee came here from Allamakee county twenty years ago after having served as sheriff there. He was a member of the lower house of representatives in the 38th and 39th general assemblies and was elected mayor of Mason City in 1923. He is survived by two daughters and a son, all adults.
The body of Mr. McGhee arrived in Postville on the afternoon Milwaukee Tuesday and was at once buried in Postville cemetery.
He was aged 64 years, 6 months and 21 days.
