    Notes:

See The SPARKS QUARTERLY, September, 1989, Whole No. 147, pg 3471:
"John Sparks, son of Willoughby and Polly Sparks, was born about 1848 in Tennessee. He served in Company D (Lt. Spruell's Company) 35th Regiment Texas Cavalry, Confederate States Army during the Civil War, and after his death, his widow received a pension from the state of Texas for his service.
After returning from the military service, John Sparks married Rebecca A. ["Becky"] Brown on December 29, 1871, in Limestone County, Texas. She was born on November 25, 1855, in Bienvielle Parish, Louisiana. John died on December 13, 1925, in Limestone County, and Becky died on March 6, 1953. According to the 1880 census of Limestone County, they had four children; there may have been other children born to them later.
    - m. 29 DEC 1871 in Limestone, TX"

There is a great deal of argument about John's birthdate since, if he was born in Texas prior to statehood, Willoughby's descendants are eligible for DRT or SRT. The census records report 1844-1853, in Texas or Tennessee and his headstone says 1847. His death certificate gives Oct 1844 in Limestone County. John's birth is, so far, the only indication of Willoughby's residence before 19 Feb 1846 when Texas became a state. I don't believe John was born that early. Bailey was born in 1847 and I belive john was born in 1849.

Reuben is widowed and they're farming.

    Pension:
Pension #11030: document says Headsville, Limestone Co, TX, it's near the county line.

Reuben married Mary F RIGBY about 1848 in , , Mississippi, USA. Mary (daughter of Russell Thomas RIGBY and Lydia SULLIVAN) was born in 1830 in , Darlington, South Carolina, USA; died before Jul 1870 in , , Texas, USA; was buried in Kosse, Limestone, Texas, USA. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

  2. 9.  Mary F RIGBY was born in 1830 in , Darlington, South Carolina, USA (daughter of Russell Thomas RIGBY and Lydia SULLIVAN); died before Jul 1870 in , , Texas, USA; was buried in Kosse, Limestone, Texas, USA.

    Notes:

This family is difficult to trace because of the repetitive naming and the fact that so many different families resided together. Ive seen a lot of sources that list 7 children for Russell and Lydia - William B, Emily Ann, Mary F, Sidney F, John Owen, Martha, and Melissa Lydia - and 8 children for Russell and Mary - Joseph A, Margaret, Russell, Charles, Louvinia, Stephen, Benjamin, and Archie. However, I have found no sources online that prove any of these children. I've also found sources that show most of these children to be nieces and nephews, again I find no sources that prove any parentage. If we go strictly with the 1850 and 1860 census records, assuming that all the children are with the correct parents, we find John O, Robert E, Sidney, Melissa, and Stephen who are all older than the supposed marriage date for Mary, and Joseph, Charles, Margaret and Miranda who would be Mary's children. It's possible that our Mary Rigby O'Neal is also a daughter of Bryant.

    ABSALOM SPARKS A. SPARKS 1195
    MARY SPARKS M. SPARKS 1231

"A great many years ago, two great-grandchildren of Willoughby and Polly (Harrell) Sparks, Frank Sparks and Segonia (Sparks) Pritchett, found Mary's (Polly's) grave in Hills Cemetery. It had a headstone marker then which read "Polly Sparks, 1813." When they revisited the cemetery the following year for the purpose of replacing the marker, someone had removed it.
"Hill Cemetery is in Parker County, TX. It is off of I-20 on Gilbert Pit Road. Go down the road past the gravel pit and the cattle guard. It is on the right back off the road." [George Boatright, http://boatwrightgenealogy.com/index.html] [This stone is still in the cemetery.]

I don't believe this information is correct for our Polly Sparks, it would make her only a child when these children were born and she was married previously. I don't believe she married at 10. Her stone may say 1813 but it would be obviously incorrect.

This is an indication that Willoughby has died.
