  • Notes
    • From "It's All Relative"
"When Azariah died in 1866 he left his farm to his wife for her lifetime and then to their children. On 2 Jan 1898 Nancy A. Sharp and John H. Dunn brought suit against their surviving siblings, James F Dunn, Robertson Co, Tennessee; Martha Robinson of Paducah, Kentucky; Maranda Corbin and husband Wade of Robertson Co; Simm York, husband of late Lucy Dunn and Lucy's children: Mrs Fannie Jenkins (widow), Mollie Boraham and husband William; Lewis York; Annie York; and Lelia Fly and husband James S.
"Also included in the lawsuit was William Dunn who was thought to have purchased James' interest. There was apparently dissatisfaction among the children concerning the money used to purchase a house in Nashville by Mary Dunn. The suit states that Mary Dunn kept farming after the death of Azariah and accumulated some $1200 with which she purchased the house. She kept the house several years and when she sold it she used the money for her support, invested some of it. Before her death she apparently had given Nancy some $500 cash. Nancy and John H. argued that the money was Mary's and she had the right to dispose of it as she saw fit and that the farm should be sold and the money be divided between all, less the amounts they had received before their father's death. The farm was sold at public auction on 28 April 1898 for $500, on notes of one and two years. The court had not gotten it's money in early 1900. It would appear that none of the children received much from the settlement."
